Expect the unexpected in the form of sudden changes with themes of “running head first” into action, being compelled by desire and innovation. All of this will take a toll on nervous systems – some of which you may be feeling already. There will be a boom in new entrepreneurs disrupting norms with new platforms driven by independence. Sovereignty will be the name of the game. Partnerships - both business and romantic - will be tested as independence is a big theme that will disrupt the norm for these close relationships. In terms of health, we will see an uptick in issues related to the blood tissues and channels and we may see some advancements and technological breakthroughs or emphasis in the realm of sexuality and fertility.

Jupiter, ruler of Dharma, Wise Counsel, Wealth, Children gives us tempered hope.

Also in mid April, Jupiter moved from a restrictive two years in Saturn’s signs into expansive Pisces where it will remain until late April 2023. In July Saturn will retrograde back to Capricorn before re-entering Aquarius in mid-January 2023. So this is a preview of what’s to come when Saturn has its longer stay in Aquarius from January to March 2025. The past two and a half years of Saturn in Capricorn it has really packed a punch for re-working how we work and live. It's been a harsh wake-up call of attention to our habits and routines, inviting us to stay more resilient to stress and illness so that we are more safe and secure for ourselves and others. It was a time of emotional sensitivity and reactivity.

Saturn in Aquarius will be a very different vibe, more soft and subtle in its effects. Technology will rule and huge leaps will be taken in energy and energy storage solutions. There will be the rise of the thinker as opposed to the feeler. Philosophical understandings be sought after to more deeply see our place in the world and our contribution to the whole. Saturn in Aquarius will offer an invitation to wisdom, discernment and humanitarianism over reactive feeling and self-protection. In terms of health we might see more environmental toxin reactivity, circulatory conditions, fatigue, and auto-immune disorders. This is a reminder not to forget healthy habits, routines, rest, self-care and vata-pacification overall.

Now what of the rock and the hard place?

This upcoming year is the punctuation mark of a story that started in 2019. Many have already felt stuck and are feeling ready to move forward and leave the past behind. While some of the astrological changes offer a thrust forward, the changes will be sporadic and at times feeble relative to our desire for change. We can certainly expect a progression forward out of the conditions of the past two years, but it may feel like two steps forward, one step back. Jupiter, the planet of hope is certainly in a better condition, but it is still hemmed in by some restrictive and hot-headed planets. Meanwhile, Saturn gives us a respite for a little while but then finds itself pulled back to its 2020 position again for a bit. So many of us will feel a bit like we are turning tires in mud. What is the mud? Is it our own limited thinking? Is it society’s restrictions? Is it the habits and conditioning of the past? In a way, it matters less why or how we are stuck than what we choose to do to patiently and wisely to move forward.

So what to do?

It's time to let go of the things of the past that served a purpose but are no longer in our best long-term interest.

Move forward and grow, even if awkwardly and imperfectly.

Depending on your horoscope this forward movement may be in the realm of work, relationships, finance, health, family planning, home location, education or several of these. Let’s dive into some insights about how this change might impact us at the micro and macro level.

This month {March 2019}, Rāhu and Ketu – the North and South Nodes of the Moon – changed constellations. Unlike say, the Moon which changes position every few days, or the Sun every month, the change of location of these slow moving nodes only takes place every 18 months. The rarer the shift, the bigger the shift-show.

To understand this shift, let’s look at the Astronomy and Folklore of the Nodes

The Moon's nodes are always directly opposite from one another in the sky, moving in sync. Thus, in a horoscope, which is a map of the sky, they are always directly opposite from one another. Picture 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock on a timepiece.

Rāhu and Ketu are mathematical points of the lunar orbit intersecting the ecliptic (the apparent path of the Sun). These two points potentiate two of the most stunning celestial events seeable: Solar and Lunar eclipses.

In the first week of March 2019* Rāhu and Ketu moved from the Cancer / Capricorn position of the last 18 months to a Gemini / Sagittarius position {the 3rd and 9th signs}. Specific examples of these broad themes include the film industry, smart phones, A.I. (Artificial Intelligence), plastics and the expat experience.

To understand how these themes will unfold at this time, we have to be able to look at this position of Rāhu and Ketu in the context of other patterns at play. Without getting into all of those details, let’s take a look at how Rāhu and Ketu in Gemini / Sagittarius can play out in these 18 months.

Metamorphosis is Messy

Expect revolution. This will be a time of quest for fairness and freedom, a time of metamorphosis – which is uncomfortable, scary, often comes with unexpected outcomes, and has an element of mystery and magic. It will appear that the house is coming down. In fact, the house must come down for a necessary renovation.

Be it at the financial, political, social, or personal level, Rāhu and Ketu in this position are likely to bring change that is associated with innovation in some shape or form.

The Revolution will be Technologized

I expect to see the rise of new emerging complex technology that will usurp current paradigms. This may cause disruption that may be extreme or dramatic, leading to skepticism and scrutiny. In the end there will be acceptance, regulation and integration. An example is artificial intelligence gaining traction and being installed into daily life – even into human physiology. Expect technological changes that are at the level of magic. Think back to the emergence of the internet, which made the seemingly impossible, possible.

Social Shift Show

At the level of society expect an up-rise in which the underserved work to usurp the overserved, the young overtake the ways of the past. Expect unrest, discomfort, sudden changes, and disruption that leads to renewal. Ketu being in the constellation of Sagittarius is in a position of dharma {righteousness, order}, this can bring a toppling of the status quo for the pursuit of breaking free of the fetters of our current system. This will require the kind of “risk-it-all ambition” from those marginalized members of society who are ready to upend the system.

Expect a resistance, and resistance to the resistance. It may get messy. This is a natural cyclical rebalancing for the sake of dharma.

We will see protests, coups, questioning, doubting and toppling of long-standing institutions such as banks and local currencies. Innovative social structure breakthroughs will take place which will need regulation and integration.

We may see new technology usher in a revolution of commonplace financial structures including how we use, spend, store and even think about currency.

These social, political and economic changes will effect relationships between nations.

In addition I expect to see the formation of infrastructure, technology or institutions to circumvent / manage disasters such as fires.

Individual Transformation

Expect some change. Yes, at the individual level, this could prove a time of transformation. You may feel a quest coming on, or a drive toward change and innovation in your life, work or relationships.

Some will seek spiritual growth or deep knowledge, others will crave a change in the household or profession. This particular time could come with a sense of rebellion or resistance. There may be a desire to be different, to innovate, to question of the norms of your life. You may start to feel right side up in an upside down world. My suggestion is, at the personal level, do not upend your life {yet}. Allow the natural thing to happen naturally.

Here’s an example. My two year old is getting interested in riding a bike. This shift for him will revolutionize how he moves through the world and how he perceives his own capacity. It’s coming. We can see it. Along the way he is likely to fall down a few times, to be a bit scared, to encounter limitation and then push through it. And when it comes, it will be magical, it will cause a shift in the pace of the whole family. But it can’t be rushed or forced. We aren’t giving away the stroller just yet.

For individual transformation, proceed with prudence. Do not force or hurry change. Don't toss the cocoon mid-metamorphosis.

A Bumpy Ride for Greater Good – Eventually

Rāhu and Ketu come with an element of surprise and magic. First let's look simply at Jupiter.

Jupiter often connotes matters of:

Wealth, royalty, riches

Children, be it conception, birth, or time with children

Wisdom, knowledge, higher education, publishing, philosophy or religion

Advice {giving or receiving} and good counsel which leads to right choices that bring luck or positive change

Gains of all kinds, including weight gain

Why is this change significant?

Inner planets ~ Mercury, Venus, Sun and Moon change signs frequently, marking small ups, downs and changes. Yet outer planets {Saturn and Jupiter} move slowly and their transition to a new sign can often mark a significant shift in your life. Where the moon changes signs roughly every 2.25 days, and the Sun each month, Jupiter moves to a new sign only about once annually, taking roughly 12 years to traverse the whole zodiac.

A move of Jupiter can signify such major life changes as a pregnancy, an up or downturn in investments, or the appearance of a significant teacher or advisor in one's life. Again, the details will depend on Jupiter's location and condition, and how it is interfacing with your entire horoscope {not to mention the play of your free will given the circumstances of your karma!}

The change from Libra to Scorpio, marks a likely improvement for many.

Libra has a more mercantile nature, which is not simpatico with Jupiter's royal constitution. In Libra, we can expect Jupiter to stimulate moderate gains and losses with regard to basic material goods, as we might see in the market place. A location in Mars-owned Scorpio is a better natural alignment for Jupiter. Jupiter and Mars are natural comrades, making for a positive relationship when Mars is "hosting" Jupiter in his home of Scorpio.

A time for deep study or preparation.

Regal and contemplative Jupiter feels right at home in Scorpio, which has a subterranean, secretive or “underground” nature. Here, Jupiter's proclivity for philosophy and wisdom can thrive. Thus, this time can be about the introspection, deep study, contemplation, preparation, or research period necessary for a positive gain or change to be ultimately escorted into the light of day.

Kapha on the rise.

Jupiter is a Kapha planet {Āyurveda's biological constitution associated with water and earth}. As Jupiter moves to the watery sign of scorpio, we see a doubling up of the water element. In addition, Jupiter rules rich foods. It happens that this move occurs just as we move closer to the bogginess of winter and the sweet-delights of the holiday season.
Kapha may be on the rise, so it's a good time to watch out for

Weight gain

Lethargy

Mental cloudiness

Depression

Jupiter can bring healthy juicy weight that shows an inner richness and capacity. However, without mindful attentiveness, Jupiter in Scorpio can bring on the junk food, so for some this can be a time in which some put on some unhealthy "Jupiter packaging" and bogginess {for your constitution}. Just take care of yourself in a positive way.

You can take advantage of some of Kapha's positive attributes including:

Strength and Stamina

Commitment and Routines

Compassion and Giving

Sense of Contentment

While enjoying the "richness" of Jupiter, it is also a good time to begin an exercise routine {motivated by self care, not appearance}, start a journaling ritual or take advantage of the "richness" of Jupiter, by choosing truly nourishing foods and habits, rather than going for the junk or comfort foods with less value or vitality.

Financial markets may flatline

Remember that Jupiter in Scorpio is less about big growth, and more about pulling back and preparing.
